Dealing with Stares When You Dress Kawaii

If you’re not used to this, it can be very uncomfortable…

But don’t get so self-conscious that you want stop wearing kawaii 😭 We don’t want that!!

There’s a few easy ways to get used to being stared at when wearing kawaii.

And soon you’ll be walking like the world is your runway, proud of your style, and feeling like your true self πŸ₯°

Here are my super-simple tips for dealing with being stared at!

First, let’s face it: being looked at is normal!

Whether like this 😍 or like this 😐 or like this 😲, people are going to stare. Why?

Because kawaii is an alternative fashion, and it’s going to stand out.

Kawaii has very cute designs, sometimes bold and very colorful, and this draws the eye.

Kawaii is a FUN fashion! The more you look, the more you find!! 😍

I live in the United States, where wearing even just a kawaii bowtie is different, so people do stare.

But not all stares are bad. Actually, most stares are good.

Kawaii is an uplifting and positive fashion style, and people are drawn to the positivity and joy that it represents!!

  1. Their childhood 🐻
  2. The simplicity of sweetness πŸ’–
  3. The fun feeling of being young and free! πŸ₯³

Kawaii often turns heads because people see so much joy in the style!

Just because it’s normal to be stared at, it doesn’t mean that it will always be easy ~ especially if you’re new to kawaii.

To get more comfortable with the looks coming your way wear kawaii a little at a time.

When you’re first going out in public, wear just one or two pieces of kawaii in your style.

  1. A kawaii hairstyle with your usual/normal clothes.
  2. A kawaii skirt with a plain collared top.
  3. A normal outfit adding only a kawaii bow tie.
  4. A normal outfit with a super kawaii purse.

Whatever you have in your wardrobe, wear it a little at a time. The less kawaii you wear, the less stares you’ll get ~ and that will give you time to get used to all the eyes on you!

Only the skirt is kawaii 😊

And don’t be afraid to go out in public!! The real world is much kinder than the internet, so wear your kawaii outfits out and about.

Also keep this in mind: What would YOU do if you saw someone wearing a super kawaii outfit?

Yes, you would stare! πŸ˜…

You would be absolutely mesmerized by their outfit, and you’d stare in a good way. Keep that in mind, and enjoy the attention you’re getting πŸ˜‰

Once you’re wearing full kawaii outfits, expect more stares.

More kawaii = more stares.

The more colorful, unique, and awesome you look ~ the more people will look!

Keep wearing kawaii a little at a time, then wear more and more as you get comfortable. Soon you’ll end up wearing full kawaii outfits, and often.

This is good for you! πŸ’–

If you wear kawaii, you will be stared at, but don’t be shy! People staring isn’t bad!

Staring is actually normal because kawaii is such a fun and eye-catching fashion.

Expect the stares, get used to them little by little, and enjoy the fact that you are being yourself πŸ₯°

It might take a little while to get used to all the stares, but in the end, it is SO worth it!

  1. Oh my gosh, SO many fun skirts! I especially love the pink one with desserts on it 😍

I’m not going to lie, I think it’s hilarious to get stared at. I usually wear quite gothic/punk outfits (and yet I still own and love kawaii clothes too – even though they’re so opposite πŸ˜‚), so I get looked at a bit but it gives me more confidence if anything!

I’ve been stopped a few times and gotten compliments on my style or something specific I’m wearing (I’ve even made friends because of it!), so now when I’m looked at I just assume they’re all thinking the same thing πŸ˜‰ and I think anyone being stared at should think the same way!

People staring are probably just wishing they had the courage to be as comfortable in their own body and style choices as you, so continue to be proud and wear what makes you happy πŸ₯°

    1. That’s such great advice πŸ’–βœ¨ Thank you!! As a shy introverted person, it took me such a long time to learn that!

And that’s so awesome that you’ve made friends from being yourself and dressing how you want πŸ’•πŸ˜ I’m sure that’s going to be super inspiring for anyone who reads your comment πŸ™Œ

  2. Oh my goodness, I LOVE this post!!! Not just for the outfits, but for the message! Firstly, I’m enamored with your kawaii outfits! The ice cream skirt, the lavender one, the red and black skirt…ahhhh! πŸ₯° I know you’re saying you’ll get stares wearing kawaii, but I also think you’re getting stares because you’re gorgeous! πŸ₯Ή

I totally understand the timidness at first behind wearing kawaii. I love your ideas about easing into it, and being your true self and strutting your stuff with confidence! I can’t really call my style kawaii per se, but I definitely get stares more so because my style is a bit…well, I just don’t think people know what to think of me as a whole package! πŸ˜‚ I love my style, but I’m fully aware that many people I come into contact with in real life are very uncomfortable in my presence. But I like to stay true to what I love – so, so be it!

Rock on with these inspiring posts – I am excited for the next one! πŸ’—

    1. Thanks so much for the compliment πŸ₯°βœ¨ Totally same for you! I love your style and would definitely stare 🀩 And then try to copy your style haha 😁

I understand about people feeling uncomfortable. It’s happened to me a few times but it’s like, oh well. I tried to change for others in the past and I was the one who ended up super uncomfortable not being myself. I love your attitude of staying true to what you love πŸ’–πŸŒΈ I wish I’d had that attitude much earlier in life!

  3. This post was awesome and my favourite line was “And soon you’ll be walking like the world is your runway, proud of your style, and feeling like your true self πŸ₯°”, so empowering! I love the outfit with the plaid skirt, that would definitely be my style of Kawaii. Is there an edgier side to Kawaii? πŸ€”I’ve never really thought of that before…well I guess asking you would make sense since you would know! πŸ˜…

Btw, it was nice to see your face in the one photo, not sure if it was on purpose, but you are very pretty and you really got to see how happy Kawaii makes you! ❀

    1. Yes, there is definitely edgy kawaii! There’s goth kawaii (exactly what it sounds like, gothic clothing with some girly and cute elements), gurokawa (add horror elements), yami kawaii (dark themes like hospitals and illness), and so much more 😊 It all comes from people adding what they enjoy to kawaii, and that’s just awesome πŸ’–πŸŒΈ

And thank you!! ☺️✨ I mostly cover my face to focus on the fashion, since I’m not good at kawaii makeup yet. But it’s good to hear you liked the unedited photo! I’ll keep that in mind for future posts, thanks 😊🌸
